About David Bridgwater
David started his racing career at 14 when he joined Lester Piggott’s stable as an apprentice on the flat where he had 20 mount without success. David then moved to David Nicholson’s yard and was with him for 4 years before he rode for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Martin Pipe.
David’s first winner was “Winnie The Witch” at Leicester on 22nd January 1990 and major races he won as a jockey include County Hurdle, Swinton Insurance Hurdle, Great Yorkshire Chase, Mitsubishi Trophy Chase, Scottish Champion Hurdle 1994 and the Scottish Grand National 1994.
David was forced to retire at the age of 26 due to an injury to his arm and at the time had ridden 466 winners.
David was given a training licence in October 1998 and had his first winner with his first runner.
David has now been training for 10 years and has been established at Wyck Hill Farm for the last 5 years. During this time he has established a yard and improved the training facilities and is now in a position to capitalize on the development to the complex.
David has sent out nearly 1000 runners in this period to the end of July 2009 and has 239 winners and placed horses over the jumps and on the flat.
One of the highlights of 2008 was when Neutrino and Runshan both won at Fontwell on 8th September.
On the flat David’s most successful horse was Consonant winning 5 times after being purchase at the sales for 3000 guineas
